Make Your Own Makeup! Tips And Tricks To Save Your Skin And Your Money!

Make Your Own Makeup! Tips And Tricks To Save Your Skin And Your Money! – Makeup is something that girls love to play with. Even as five year olds, pretending to apply lipstick to our dolls and ourselves (and sometimes even the walls!) was just the beginning of what can become a life-long fascination.

Makeup is pretty and sparkly, and even though many women don’t need it to be beautiful, it makes us feel special, like we took a little bit longer in getting ourselves ready for the world by putting our best face forward, literally.

Most of us have at least a drawer full of makeup and beauty products, and some have entire cupboards full. Even if we only use the same three items every single day. We buy a lipstick and don’t like the shade. Or buy mascara that claims to give you the longest lashes ever, only to find out it really doesn’t. So back in the drawer they go. And since you can’t return most makeup items if you’ve used them, wasted money goes along with.

Makeup these days can be very expensive. But it can also be full of chemicals and ingredients that some people prefer not to use. If you have sensitive skin, certain products can cause irritation or even make pre-existing skin problems worse. While some products may prove to be far too difficult to try and attempt on your own, there are some that are easy and inexpensive at the same time.

One of the simplest things to make is lip gloss. You can find the ingredients at any health food shop or natural products department in larger retailers. All you need to do is melt ¼ cup of natural beeswax with 6 teaspoons of castor oil in a small saucepan. You can substitute jojoba oil or sunflower oil if you prefer. Mix in 5 or 6 drops of essential oils, such as peppermint or lemon, to add a hint of flavor. Pour into a jar and allow to cool before covering. Once you have tried this basic how-to, you may find yourself wanting to try making colored lip gloss, which you can do by adding small amount of pure beet juice until you reach the desired shade and depth.

Making other beauty products requires a few more ingredients, equipment and time. However, most of the products needed to make them are easier to find these days. And with the internet, you can easily source a multitude of different recipes, as well as tricks and tips from people who have already made their own makeup products that will help you figure out what you want to do. Have fun and experiment with different methods and ingredients and you may find that the thing that makes you feel the prettiest is something you made yourself!

Manolo Blahnik Shoes

Manolo Blahnik Shoes – It’s estimated that the average woman spends £527 on shoes in one year and it’s no wonder when fashion icons such as Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica-Parker) are shown fuelling their insatiable appetite for them.

Manolo Blahnik is a world-famous shoe designer who grew up on the Canary Islands after being born there in 1942. He studied politics and law in Geneva, moved to Paris and finally settled London where he set up his shoe design business in the 70’s without any formal shoe-making training. Blahnik began his career as a set designer in the UK, and upon seeing his sketches, fashion guru Diana Vreeland suggested that he should move onto designing shoes.

Within the fashion world Blahnik’s shoes have always been legendary, appearing on the feet of Yves Saint-Laurent, Calvin Klein and Christian Dior catwalk models (amongst many others).

But it wasn’t until they were mentioned in hit 80’s and 90’s television shows ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ and ‘Sex and the City’ that almost every woman who gave a tinkle about fashion knew Manolo’s name.

Carrie Bradshaw is the main character in Darren Star’s ‘Sex and the City’. She is a column writer for a New York newspaper with a penchant for clothes, particularly shoes and more specifically Manolo Blahniks and Jimmy Choo’s.

Manolo’s shoes span a huge range of styles, colours and fabrics and his work has earned him a CBE (commander of the British Empire) and honorary doctorates amongst praises from a huge number of celebrities, fellow designers and fashion moguls.

Madonna once said that Blahnik’s shoes were ‘better than sex…and they last longer’ (which elicited a rather cutting response from the man himself). Yet despite all this praise and publicity, Manolo modestly maintains that his huge career was an ‘accident of life’.

Many fashion designers are famous for creating many different clothing garments, but Manolo Blahnik’s name is synonymous solely with footwear, each pair of which he designs, sketches and moulds the heels himself. His shoes are incredibly sexy, often stiletto heeled, ballet shoes, mules and sandals. Manolo has no inhibitions when it comes to designing and his shoes are in all colours and prints (animal and camouflage), with diamonds, feathers, buckles, beads. They usually sell for hundreds and even thousands of dollars and are on sale in boutiques in London, New York and Honk Kong.

In 1974 Blahnik appeared on the cover of British vogue, and was the first man to fill the role. Right up to the 21st century he continues to be in the public eye, being the very first shoe designer to have work displayed in a museum and with his most eclectic work photographed, bound and published in Eric Boman’s fashion photography hardback (pictured right).

Manolo Blahnik’s work has earned him the status of ‘household name’ and his shoes have even been nicknamed ‘Manolo’s’. The man himself said that he needed no formal training in shoemaking because he ‘has the best taste in the world’; and who are we to argue?

New Prep Style Pioneers

New Prep Style Pioneers – There is a old notion is that the essence of prep style is assimilation with the country club and yacht set, but thanks to new prep style pioneers we can breathe a little individuality into this uniquely American style. This style had a surge of popularity in the 1980’s but has since grown stale. Despite how you feel about preppy people socially, there is hardly a negative thing to be said about their sense of style.

For example Andre 3000 of the Atlanta, Georgia based group Outkast can often be found wearing prep style. Below André3000 is shown in a classically prep piece the sweater vest. If André3000 had chosen to wear khaki pants with his sweater vest he would be rocking prep style from head to toe but thankfully he chose to keep it a little street by switching it up and wearing jeans.

Kanye West and Pharell Williams also like to borrow from Prep style. They both have been wearing polo and lacoste on too many occasions to count. Many people refuse to acknowledge the fact that a lot of rapper dress preppy, the aforementioned entertainers simply embrace the style without stigma. Come to think of it, if you were to ask kanye he would say that he is responsible for the influx of prep style in hip hop today, but I digress.

Moving right along to another set of new prep style pioneers: the cast of Gossip Girl.

For those of you who don’t know, Gossip Girl is a popular CW teen drama about wildly rich and privately educated New York high society teens with a penchant for underage drinking and parties. I’m not sure what school they are attending but their uniforms are much more stylish than any prep academy I’ve seen.

Notice how they are all wearing headbands? They have all adapted their school uniforms to fit their personalities but the headband reminds us, their still preppy. It’s the little details in prep style that really make the difference such as the lack of ostentation jewelry and wild hair styles.

Maybe you think that this whole idea sounds too expensive. Don’t worry!? You can find plenty of the items you will need to put together a prep outfit at lower prices in thrift stores, department store clearance sections and Ebay. If you choose your clothes correctly, people won’t know how much you’ve saved unless you tell them. Fake it ‘till you make it right?

Let’s not forget prep style is not all about uniforms and old money label exclusivity anymore. Because we cannot rely on these same old money labels (i.e. Polo by Ralph Lauren, Lacoste) to switch up their design style, we instead can look forward to seeing our new prep style pioneers rock those designs in a whole new way

Nylon Makes Jewerly?

Nylon Makes Jewerly? – I’m not really sure what the inspiration for this whole Nylon jewelry collection was. If I had to take a stab at it I would say these are all objects I recognize from childhood except the deer head which would have just freaked me out as a child. There has to be a common thread in all of the pieces of this collection perhaps by the end of this article I will have figured out exactly what it is.

Dang that’s one mad deer! I guess I would be too if someone shot me and kept me around a reminder of their “strength”. I don’t like hunting or the practice of displaying the heads of the slain on the walls of ones house. This necklace puts lends a sense of humor back into the whole hunting scenario. This necklace is unisex at its best. It is ironic enough to appeal to women and masculine enough for the men. All hunting connotations aside I love this necklace.

Ice cream is normally a associated with words like cool and refreshing but this season that’s not the case., Ice cream is so hot right now. From ice cream cones to ice cream bars, this sweet inspiration is dripping all over the accessories world lately. Although I have never seen an ice cream bar with rainbow sprinkles, these are made from tiny glass beads. The idea of sprinkles is exciting but I think they would have been bettered suited on a donut or perhaps a cupcake.

Lego as a fashion statement, they said it could never be done. Legos are everywhere in the world of accessories right now. The most notable appearance would have to be the Lego belt buckles made by Marc Jacobs. I loved legos as a child and I love them still as an adult as a pendant on this necklace. The robot shape of this pendant makes it much more memorable in comparison to other Lego pieces, for example the Marc Jacobs belt buckles I was referring to just look like 4×6 bricks of Lego, kind of boring. If these two accessories got into a fight the robot would definitely win.

Mixtapes are long gone and so is the romance associated with them. It used to be that you would communicate your feelings to someone on a cassette tape filled with music that illustrated your love and or infatuation with them, however times have certainly changed. Cassette tapes are now obsolete and many would argue that romance has suffered the same fate. Lucky for us we can keep the idea and magic of the mixtape alive with this necklace. I’ve never heard the Nylon mix but I will just pretend it is full of slow jams and thoughtful raps dedicated solely to me.

I have bad news and good news. The bad news is I still don’t know what the central idea is for this collection. The good news  is I no longer care because my enthusiasm for Nylon jewelry as a whole has grown by leaps and bounds. I look forward to collections to come and hope they will be a little more cohesive. If they are not I will still probably like them anyway…..

Okay Baby Phat

Okay Baby Phat – Baby phat is one of those street wear labels that is known for its signature logo. The Baby Phat cat is on everything that is Baby Phat. Their logo is the core of almost all the designs that come out of Baby Phat. If the cat isn’t printed into a pattern for a shirt it is somewhere embroidered on the pockets or maybe nested within the metal embellishments.

Look at how pretty this shirt is! And you can barely even see the big gold Baby Phat cat embroidered on the side of this shirt. I love ruffles. I love them even more when they are this bright. The madras was a great choice of fabric for this shirt. As far as summer goes madras really captures the spirit of a luxurious summer. This shirt is so sexy and it doesn’t even show any cleavage, in fact it barely shows any skin at all.

See now this is where I get confused. On the website it says that this is a top. And here we see this “top” very clearly being worn as a dress. While I normally would see nothing wrong with a shirt that can function as a top or a dress this particular item made me raise an eye brow. My eye brow was raised due to the fact that if this woman even so much as leans forward you will see all of her goodies and then some. Sure that’s fine if that’s how you want to dress but with a brand like Baby Phat that has convinced themselves and their consumers that they are a “classy” luxury brand, I just don’t think they should encourage the possible embarrassment of their target market.

Do you recognize this face on this tank top? That’s right its Baby Phat founder Kimora Lee Simmons.

have her face printed all over. If there is one thing to be said of Kimora it is that she is very vain. On the bright side, I really like the novel use of gold print on this tank top. Really this is a cute idea, maybe I’m just hating because I want my face to be on money too.

I’m positive the Baby Phat cat is somewhere within the print of this shirt but I couldn’t say where. That alone is reason enough to love this shirt . Another reason would be, bright colors like hot pink and Teal mean you now get to wear some really eye catching accessories or even better in my book, black. Black bangles or maybe a shiny black belt would do the trick. I bet you didn’t even notice the peek-a-boo shoulder did you?

Oh Baby Phat what am I going to do with you? I want to love you because sometimes you dazzle me with shirts like that ruffled one from up top and then other times you miss out on details like the mismatched pattern on the blouse above. I’m keeping the faith, I believe in a few years Baby Phat may mature as a brand as its target market will eventually mature. Maybe that’s when I’ll start buying Baby Phat….

Party Party Party Dresses : Part Two

Party Party Party Dresses : Part Two – It’s Saturday and the party dresses are still jumpin’ and itchin’ to go out another night. We already know street wear has the graphics game on lock, so none of today’s dresses will be cartoony or kitschy in anyway. Today we will see street wear at its finest.

Oooooohweee! This is considered street wear? Well then street wear must be on the come up or BB Dakota is on the come up to be more specific. This dress is called the  “Boon”. Lurex isn’t utilized nearly as often as it should be. For those of you who forgot to attend or didn’t take textiles class, Lurex is what gives this dress its metallic sheen. The gold bubbles all over this dress will make people do a double take and when you put your hands in the hidden pockets, they’re all gonna stare. So just make sure you pose into it when you do.

The orange background of this fabric is perfect for summer, because it is one of the hottest colors for the summer and it will bring out the warmth in every skin tone tan or not.

Above is a lovely little number is by a brand called Soundgirl. This dress is aptly named “Belinda”. I wish I could have Belinda over to my house for a spot of tea and crumpets. Garden parties all over the world have been waiting for a dress like this to walk in. The ribbon and bow around your waist will make you feel like a present maybe even a surprise. There is just something so girly and exciting about this dress. I want it.

The Triple 5 Soul  “A380” isn’t overtly sexy or over embellished. It is simple, clean and chic. There are times when you want to go out  and look good but you don’t want to show off your assets, you just want to be cute and comfortable. This is the dress you wear when you have that attitude. While this look is more toned down it is still capable of being very sexy with the right shoes, hair and accessories. This is another good dress to wear with a statement shoe or maybe jewelry that is ordinarily too chunky or powerful .

Does this look like a best seller to you?  I just don’t see it but it is a best seller at some online retailers. This “Spank”  dress by  NYC Boutique is a little frumpy for me. Although I will admit I can see plenty of reason why this dress is still cute to so many women. Starting from the top the wide mouth peter pan color looks comfortable and it is not common at all.

Moving right along to the tuxedo-esque panel on the bodice of the dress, it is a fabulous way to break up all the vertical stripes in the fabric with horizontal stripes and silly ruffles. And lastly to the pockets and thigh yoke, I don’t know what it is about pockets but they seem to be popping up on a lot of dresses.

I can only guess that is because what women want and I say give the people what they want. Personally this dress reminds me of two Mcdonalds characters at once. The Hamburglar because of the thin convict stripes on the fabric and Grimace because of the lumpy gum drop silhouette.

Well I don’t know about you but I am ready to get up an go have fun. Not without picking out the perfect party dress first of course. Even if you normally just wear jeans and cute top to the club you really owe it to yourself to find out exactly why they call them party dresses.

Party Party Party Dress – Part One

Party Party Party Dress – Part One – It’s Friday!!! In honor of the weekend and the party feeling that consumes 80% every weekend I wanted to review some party dresses. Every dress in the following two segments will be from a different street wear label, I want to show the variety that street wear is beginning to offer. Street wear doesn’t just mean t-shirts and obnoxious logo repetition any more.

This little number is the “Lucy” made by  Rojas. I’ve never heard of Rojas before so perhaps in the future I will have to give them a full brand review so we can all get to know them a little better.  Lately I have been wanting more and more yellow in my wardrobe. This dress would be a perfect addition to said wardrobe. The triangles are a little 80’s but this dress is definitely going to get you a lot of compliments.

Is there any question about who made this dress? It’s pure Toki Doki duh. This dress makes me want to spin like the little records that are featured in the print. The neckline and empire waist are going to flatter a wide range of bust sizes so don’t worry if you don’t think you have the cleavage for this dress. The triangle cups make it look like anyone has the cleavage for this dress. Besides with all of the crazy things like pink hair tattooed ladies in the print, no one is going to notice your cleavage or lack there of anyway. This dress belongs at a barbeque and I say that because most people w ill be dressed down while you will be ever so casually dressed up and thusly stealing the show.

Here we have the “Anabelle” shirt dress  by Pa:nuu. I really have no clue about Pa:nuu, as in where they are from, how long the label has existed, and who is that pig? Regardless of who the pig is I am glad he is here on this dress.

Without the pig this dress would be mediocre at best but with our little oinker it is a winner. If you wear this dress I hope you don’t wear it with boots like this model did, it just makes her look shorter than she needs to be.

We have all heard of Stussy before but we may have never heard of the “Bangle” dress before. This dress is just great! Yea it is pretty simple but don’t you see how fun that is? We can wear virtually any accessories we want with this dress because of its simplicity.

This same principle means we could wear a statement shoe instead of just shoes to match the dress. If you don’t know what I mean by a statement shoe, I mean those pairs of shoes that we all have that are too ornate or out there basically shoes that take the attention away from the rest of your outfit. This dress is a great base for a lot of cute looks.

I’m so excited for this two part series! If you thought you liked this installment wait until you see what part two has in store for you.

Purple People Pleasers

Purple People Pleasers – Purple purple purple! It’s every where you look and I couldn’t be happier. Purple is the latest color to break the color code  by changing from complimentary  to neutral. That’s right you read me right, these purple purses will act as a neutral in the over all scheme of your ensemble.

Because of this purse Alexander Mcqueen and I can now be friends. Best friends if he really wants it that way… The way I feel about this plump purple wonder is hard to describe because if it was mine I would love it so dearly. If you wanted to you could fit all of your daily and maybe even over night needs into this bag.

The only concern I have for this bag is the fact that it is patent leather. While I’m sure it is of the highest quality of purple patent leathers available, that stuff is still liable to tear and or crack. With patent leathers you have to be weather conscious at all times, too much heat your bag may loose shape and too much cold will crack or split. I kid you not, a bitter cold day in Brooklyn, New York caused my favorite black patent leather bag to be laid to rest after incurring far too many tiny cracks to patch up. I’m still sad about it and its summer now!

Here we have the Bay bag from Chloe. I love the almost pre-worn leather this purse is made of. The quilting along the majority of the purse is really nice too. It makes me think this purse would actually be a great investment. The more stitching on a purse I see the more I think of  that particular purse’s added durability. While this may not be true because if remember what I learned in  good ol’ textiles class correctly  you really shouldn’t puncture leather any more that necessary. I think we are all fooled by this alleged misconception. Anyway this looks like a fantastic purse, just look at the way it stand up alone, you’ll never find patent leather that does that.

The Fendi “Spy bag” pictured above is a cult classic no matter what color it comes in. We are just fortunate that this season it is available in rich almost royal purple. The “Spy bag” is pretty infamous, its name has been mentioned  by the likes of Jay z in his verse on Beyonce’s  “Upgrade You” and Fat Joe on his hit “I won’t tell”.   This purse is a status symbol no matter what color it comes in.

Perhaps we are seeing so much purple because we are also seeing the use of bright yellow a lot more. While purple and yellow are complimentary to each other we do not need to limit ourselves to only this color combination.

The sooner you try  it yourself is the sooner you will find out that the right purple will go will anything. I suggest if you do buy a purple purse or any purple statement piece to make sure it is a true purple and not a lavender or plum. Be patient and selective and the purple purse you find will carry you all through summer and into the fall with ease.

Short Hem, Big Fun

Short Hem, Big Fun – Its hot outside and mini dresses are the perfect way to flaunt your legs this summer.

The ultra saturated corral color of this dress is bound to make you the center of attention. The Peter Pan collar and two button ruffle say this is an innocent dress but the length of the hem says otherwise. This mini dress comes with handy pockets on the side. Typically when pockets are added so obviously to a dress they often give a heavier feeling to the sides but in the case of this dress it is so short a little extra fabric doesn’t hurt the silhouette.

Mini dresses, like the maxi length dresses available are experiencing a revival of floral prints. I really like this punchy floral mini dress the color and design make me feel like someone just brought me a big glass full of Hawaiian punch and a fist full of flowers. How kind! The softly shirred empire waist and surplice neckline are flattering to virtually any bust and waist size.

Here we have another empire waisted mini in a sunny yellow and white oversized polka dot print. I see this dress walking down the beach with its slightly billowy skirt blowing in the breeze. The bow I’m not 100% convinced is actually necessary for this dress but it doesn’t look all that bad.

What is more perfect than the little black dress? The little black mini dress! Out of all the dresses within this segment, the little black mini dress truly has the most longevity. It will never go out of style because everyone knows the little black dress is a classic that every woman should have. Sure eventually it will be too cold to wear your little black mini dress and that will be the day you pull out any color, preferably a very bright color, of tights and a wrap for your shoulders and wear the little black mini dress anyway. The only thing I do not like about this dress is the belt loops look like they protrude from the dress. That just means they are going to get snagged or ripped off sooner or later.

When worn the hem of this mini, which is gathered in with elastic, will not have a traditional creased hem but a whimsical bubble instead. The bubble hem is a very popular among mini dresses. For those of you who can stand to add a little extra fluff to your backside this dress is a great look on you. For those of you who already have too much booty in their pants, you’re probably not going to like what this dress will do for your figure.

No matter what type of figure you have, if you have nice legs then you already know it and you know you should be wearing a mini dress this summer. C’mon ladies let your beautiful gams breathe in a minidress.

Sparkle Sparkle!

Sparkle Sparkle! – An influx of boring colors has made my eyes hungry for a little sparkle and shine. Thusly, Tarina Tarantino is back! Animal inspiration is on the rise again in jewelry specifically insects and marine life. I am not so picky I love just about any animal influence in my accessories except for flies, they creep me out.

Bows, beetles and a couple of tiny bows that is what this necklace is made of. In my opinion you really can’t go wrong when you pair black with silver, it always looks sleek. When I first saw Aladdin as a little girl I was captured by the idea of scarab beetle jewelry. Back then I was mystified by the idea that anyone would even want to wear anything resembling a bug. Later when I learned of the meaning of scarab’s I changed my tune.

Ooooh whose tooth is that? It doesn’t really matter what animal this tooth came from because they are too cute. Black and gold like black and silver always look outstanding together. In his case there is just enough gold to really compliment the black rhinestones on the black enamel teeth. Once again I like the tiny bows and I don’t think Tarina Tarantino can do any wrong with them.

Sparkle is a defining word for Tarina Tarantino’s work however I’m not so sure the extra white and pink rhinestones are helping this necklace. The problem with using rhinestones these days is the thin line between sparkle and bling. For those of you out there who don’t know yet bling as a word is no longer synonymous with big money and shine but rather the lower end of the spectrum, something that has peel able adhesive backing and came from the drug store counter. Unfortunately, I think this necklace qualifies as bling as a result of this it is my least favorite of all of Tarina Tarantino’s line of jewelry.

Trend forecasts say that marine inspiration is hot for summer of 2008. As far as I’m concerned I like these seahorse earrings all year round. These earrings come in a few different colors including white and black. I haven’t really seen too much sea life floating around at my local mall but the magazines keep saying the trend is coming. I for one am eager for sea inspired creations to trickle down already.

Dependant on the piece Tarantino’s work can look very expensive to very cheap. Toning it down isn’t really something Tarina believes in. I mean she has bright pink hair, she couldn’t tone it down if she tried. That is what makes her so memorable as a designer, her unrelenting devotion to all things that sparkle. Tarina Tarantino has come a long way from the little girl who used to make jewelry from fimo clay.

Surface To Air Womens Spring/Summer 2008

Surface To Air Womens Spring/Summer 2008 – Surface to Air is a brand I think we should all get to know. That way when our fashion know-it-all friends bring them up we will be able to participate in conversation. There seems to be a bit of back story with the Surface to Air collective. With contributor from New York, Stockholm and Paris the spring summer Surface to Air collection is eclectic at best.

The overalls trend is obviously not just for street wear. Here we see a more demure interpretation of the classic farmer overalls. Pay attention now, these are not just overalls but an overalls skirt. I love them because you could throw on any t-shirt underneath and you’re good to go for day time. If this overalls skirt was mine I would be wearing it out.

I love the deep scoop neck of this tank top. I think I like it because it not your typical “wife beater” tank. It feels more handmade then assembly line. I’m not sure what’s going on with the feathery leafy Cesar crown and cross bones on this tank top. Skull and cross bones are out. Consequently I think any graphics resembling the jolly roger should be thrown overboard as well. I know Surface to Air can do much much better.

I need white jeans for summer. They’re a summer staple and Surface to Air has done them just right. This particular jean features a straight leg and a higher rise than usual. I actually don’t enjoy a mid or high rise jean myself but it looks great on lots of other women so I can appreciate it when its done well. These jeans are so unobtrusive they would blend in well with any wardrobe.

At first glance I really dislike this plain Jane drop waist dress. What I am missing is the beauty and utility of such a simple design. This dress can be worn virtually every day in summer all you would need to do is change your choose to suit your occasion. The drop waist will be flattering to those without junk in the trunk. It will also hide your tummy, because the waist band is so low it will not attract unwanted attention to your mid section. The color is a little blah but that’s what bright beautiful accessories are for.

Surface to Air has simplicity in mind for the spring/summer of 2008. That’s great but there are still a few things that bother me about this label. For example I don’t like the surface to air has a very limited size range. That is their prerogative but size 26 is a small place to start so how could you stop at 30 for the largest size? While shirts come in sizes O, I, II, III. I will let you judge on that issue for yourself and when we meet again I will have the men’s wear from Surface to Air for you to enjoy.

Sweets For Your Feets

Sweets For Your Feets – Pretty much everything within the Pastry clothing and shoe lines has something to do with sweets and or baked goods. I have a feeling that kind of gimmick can only last for so long. Eventually all the novelty names will wear thin with the consumer. Fortunately for the sisters Simmons, that day doesn’t appear to be close just yet.

The shoe above is the “Fab Cookie”. What’s fab or cookie about it I don’t know. The gold accents on this shoe will allow them to match with anything especially since the rest of the shoe is basically white. I don’t know what’s up with the polka dot or as they call them “sprinkles” on the sole of the shoe. Maybe that is the cookie part? These shoes are not bad, just boring.

Above we see the “Honeydew Fab Cookie” shoes. These are a little better than the shoes from the top but that isn’t saying much. I like that they have borrowed the shell toe that is typically only found on shoes by Adidas.

The colors are nice too, not exactly what I would call honeydew but they work well together. Again we see the same “sprinkles” that appear to be on every shoe. This pair of shoes would look much cleaner without the sprinkles. To tell the truth, without the sprinkles I would actually be crazy about these shoes.

Someone needs to help these girls with their color identification. Pictured above are the “Strawberry Mint Fab Cookie” boots. I don’t see any red or pink on them with the exception of the tag and laces. So where exactly is the strawberry on these predominately lavender shoes? The mint I can see in the dusty green sole and upper accents. I’m not trying to nit pick but come on! First you call teal and pink “Honeydew” and then purple and green “Strawberry Mint”. The names and colors don’t match plain and simple. All name criticism aside these are my favorite pair from the whole Pastry shoe collection..

They have the shell toe and a high top, you can’t go wrong with that. Here we go again with the “sprinkles” on the sole but this time since they match the purple suede it’s all good.

Well Angela and Vanessa, I can tell you really tried. You probably didn’t intend to have an adult shoe line look like they were made for little girls. But with names like “Fab Cookie” I can’t say I’m surprised.  All I’m sayin is most grown women tend to avoid cookies…..

Swimwear Trends 2008: Act Two

Swimwear Trends 2008: Act Two – As you may remember we are in the process of revealing the top ten trends in swim suits for the summer of 2008. Just to recap the first article contained a few classic motifs and some designs for the fashion daredevil in us all. The next 5 trends will be no different, covering everything from new silhouettes to swimsuit staples. Swimsuit season is here so let’s just dive right in.

The soft drape silhouette is a new trend this season. This style is exceptionally comfortable and will be a delight for those of you out there who dread under wire. Due to the soft folds in the fabric there is an almost Grecian feel to this style.

This is the suit is for any woman who has ever pined to be viewed as a 1950’s pin up goddess. Retro suits are can be very conservative, often hiding the belly button. This does not take away from the sex appeal what’s so ever. Retro suits can be difficult to swim in. So make sure you bring your matching heels to the pool party as you may be spending more time working the crowd than swimming.

Not to be confused with graphic prints, the Boho trend has a personality all of its own.   These particular designs remind me of Moroccan tiles. Boho is short for Bohemian which pretty much means luxe hippy style. This trend is very easy to accessorize. You may try an arm full of wood and gold bangles or maybe that hemp necklace you have left over from your high school hippy days.

There maybe some of you out there who want to wear a bikini but also want to leave a little something to the imagination as far as the bottom is concerned. A flirty skirt bottom would be a perfect fit for you. This season skirt bottoms come in varying lengths from the teasingly short or modest enough to cover down to your mid thigh. Something to consider is the longer the skirt on your bikini the less need you have for a cover up when you move from the beach to the board walk.

It’s hard to say stripes are back because they never left. They are a summer classic only changing a little each year where color and width is concerned. My personal favorite of the bikinis pictured above is the top left. It reminds me of a Mexican sarapé with the fearless blend of colors. As with most motifs you still want to keep the relative size of the stripe you choose in proportion with you body. Try a slimmer stripe if you are petite and a wider stripe if you are not.

I hope you are excited to buy a new swimsuit, whether it is a bikini, one piece or my personal favorite the monokini. There is a trend for all tastes this season. If you have read both articles and you still think there isn’t a trend for you. Forget about it! Bikini babes from Brazil rarely even wear matching tops and bottoms. Take a page from their book, you do not need to follow a trend, this is the summer and anything goes.

Swimwear Trends 2008: Act One

Swimwear Trends 2008: Act One – Spring has sprung. The fall collections have been shown in both Paris and New York. Now the summer season is upon us here in the United States. Summer is my favorite season! I love buying a new bathing suit or three. There is a lot to think about when choosing a swimsuit. Should it be a bikini or a one piece? Eye catching print or classy retro style? Or maybe this is the year you are brave enough to wear that cheetah print bikini? Because there are so many suits to choose from I have broken up my top ten trends for the season into a two part series. Here are the first five trends in no particular order:

This summer metallic swimsuits are available for every shape and size. The metallic trend is not limited to only traditional metals such as silver, gold, and bronze but also what I like to call fantasy metals such as the blue bikinis pictured above.  Personally If I were to buy a metallic bikini I would definitely choose a fantasy metal so the likely hood of another woman and I being “suit twins” on the beach or poolside would be slimmer.

Wild Graphic prints will never go out of style for summer. This year we are seeing prints raging from girly bows to 60’s style psychedelic paisleys. One rule to remember when buying a graphic bikini, the bolder the print the smaller the bikini should be. I don’t know why this formula works but it does.

The monokini is for the daring. This suit is my personal favorite for the season. The monokini is a trend doubler in that, you can find one that may contain one or more of the other trends listed such as a graphic prints, animal print and especially metallic. It is not for the faint of heart. If you don’t think you would look fierce in a monokini, don’t bother, you may not wear it right due to insecurities. The monokini is a power suit, no doubt about it.

Animal prints, like metallics are a swimsuit staple. This season we are seeing mostly zebra and cheetah. The good news to that is if you don’t look good in black and white, the golden browns found in cheetah print are complimentary to almost any skin tone.

Playful polka dots are available in numerous colors this season. A helpful tip when choosing a polka dot for your suit is to keep in mind the proportion of the polka dot in relative size to your body. Meaning if you are petite you should tend towards a smaller polka dot and so on.

We are half way through our exploration of swimsuit trends for the summer of 2008. Perhaps you didn’t find a trend that was right for you in this first segment. Fear not, the sequel is ready, and it’s coming. Stay Tuned…

Tarina Tarantino Knows Barbie!

Tarina Tarantino Knows Barbie! – Today I was browsing the Internet for new and exciting objects to review and I came upon a jewelry designer  I’d never heard of before. I kept snooping around this designers site until I came across some Barbie earrings I had seen before but I never knew who made them. I was delighted to find a mystery I had forgotten about had been solved! I am pleased to present the works of Tarina Tarantino.  Her work is not limited to Barbie by any means, however this collection will be our sole focus in this article.

I don’t even remember where I’ve seen these earrings before. I just remember how bad I wanted them. As a little girl Barbie was my world. . Profile silhouettes are popping up everywhere on jewelry from pendants to rings and earrings. As an adult earrings featuring the silhouette of my favorite childhood toy would seem silly if it were anything other than Barbie. The little black bows and pink Swarovski crystals make you think that these may be Betsey Johnson.

Fortunately the idea of adorning ones self with Barbie is all Tarina Tarantino.

Not all of the Barbie collection from Tarantino’s line has such a literal inspiration. The Lucite heart earrings above were crafted to resemble earrings worn by Barbie herself. Many of you may not even remember that Barbie comes with her own earrings because they are usually the first accessory to get lost, they’re right up there with the tiny shoes.  Even if you don’t like Barbie there is something in this collection for you.

Only a true Barbie fan would see the inspiration in these earrings, and how many of them do you really know?

Tarina’s Barbie collection includes the many faces of Barbie through her career as one of the worlds favorite dolls. Above we see a very 1970’s Barbie on bracelets and even a cocktail ring. Personally out of all the items in the photo above the only piece I like is the cocktail ring. Cocktail rings are a must have for the summer of 2008. The rest of the pieces look  like they were intended for little girls. I think if you’re going to wear something childish like Barbie jewelry you better do it in a more sophisticated way.

This 1980’s version of Barbie is my favorite because this is the Barbie I saw in all of my many Barbie coloring books. The purple and green rhinestones are a little much but I really like the tiny lime green bow at the top of this pendant. Add a few more of those lime bows and you would really have a winner on your hands.

Her studio may be located in Los Angeles but her sparkly baubles are in high demand around the world. Don’t worry Tarina Tarantino has so much more to offer than just Barbie inspired jewelry. She makes everything belts, purses, hair pins an so much pretty sparkling jewelry it will make your head spin. I will definitely be covering more from Tarina Tarantino in the future.

Tea Dresses

Tea Dresses – Starting life in the 1800’s, tea dresses and gowns were elegant attire, only worn at important family meals and afternoon teas. Contemporary fashion sees the resurgence of the tea dress for wear in any possible situation and is set to be popular in summer 2008.

Dolce and Gabbana have certainly had a part to play in the reappearance of tea dresses on the catwalk, with their tranquil feminine spring 2008 collection. This summer’s fashion marks another revival of the 1930’s style of dress with elaborate floating frills, pleats and floral prints.

Modern tea dresses are an updated take on the 19th century tea gown, which was a full length floating dress with elaborate frills, puffy collars and trains.

The term ‘Tea Dress’ (much like it’s fitting) in today’s fashion is used loosely. These garments are typically flowing, free fitting with capped sleeves and anywhere from a mid- thigh to ankle length hemline. A tea style dress will often feature an attached fabric belt that ties it in at the waist, or sits loosely in a bow at the back. A common print for tea dresses is floral, although paisley and star prints on a plain background are also favorites. These patterns are described as ‘ditsy’ which means small and busy, so you’re unlikely to find a plain print tea dress.

These styles of dresses are most commonly available in soft, airy fabrics such as chiffon and sheer crepe, which makes them ideal for hot summer months. Such lightweight fabrics lend gently to a straight-up-straight-down figure, giving the illusion of curves, yet their flowing nature can also hide those lumps and bumps that a fuller-figure lady wants to hide. The beauty of this style is that they are available in a variety of lengths to suit a variety of figures. Chiffon, crepe and other summery fabrics keep the body cool by allowing air to flow through them. After all, when you’re a feminine summer beauty you can’t allow sweat marks or frizzy hair!

Unlike it’s complicated print, the tea dress is remarkably easy to wear. Simply team it up with a pair of flat or low-heeled plain color boots and some beads. A great way to cover up is to add a loose-knit bolero and brightly colored opaque tights, which match a color hinted in the dress. When worn with a simple petticoat peeking out from the hemline a tea dress can look a perfect example of 1930’s vintage fashion. If you’re heading off to a festival this coming season then a tea dress is classic festival wear with plain wellies or cowboy boots, beach hair and a wide-brim sun hat. Oversized statement sunglasses never did anyone any harm either! Alternatively, spruce up a tea dress for an evening out with black high heels, tousled hair and subtle silver jewelery.

Everyone knows that wearing a dress is an expression of femininity in some way or another, but a tea dress is an effortless, majestic wardrobe must-have at the same time as being sassy, colorful and cool summer wear.

That’s For Groceries?

That’s For Groceries? – Less waste means a happier and cleaner life for all of us and that is why so many of us are switching to reusable shopping bags instead of the flimsy plastic bags that are given to us at the grocery store. Many brands have taken note of the desire of consumers to purchase bags that are eco-friendly as well as fashionable.

This striped bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs may not look like a traditional grocery bag but it’s a reusable bag that you will actually want to use. Although this bag is really cute its not exactly cost effective because you’re really going grocery shopping you will need at least 3 bags per trip. With the amount of money you might spend on trying to use these bag you could take a mini vacation. It is a good thing that this nautical inspired bag is cute enough to want use as your summer purse as well as your grocery bag.

This bag by Anya Hindmarch is without a doubt the most identifiable of all reusable bags. And yet it is not really suitable for bringing home your groceries. It would work much better as a handbag and that is how most women use it. I think what women like most about this bag is the fact that it pretty much screams “Hey I care about the environment more than you. Look I’m doin’ it right now”. I used to be a big fan of this bag until I found out that they are too small to actually use. Also they are outrageously popular, thusly making them lame to those of us who would rather be early adopters than followers, sad but true.

Even Juicy couture has made their own reusable grocery bag. Other than brand recognition I don’t feel anything for this bag. Not as a purse and it doesn’t look practical enough to hold heavy groceries. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again a strap that thin is going to hurt your shoulder when you fill the bag to its capacity. Definitely not worth the price unless you just want a status symbol. If that’s the case this is your shopping bag.

One of my dear friends told me about Baggu. They cost substantially less than all of the other designer reusable grocery bags. Sure they are plain in comparison but they are available in a wide variety of colors. Baggu is made of a very durable rip stop nylon while many of the other bags in this article are made from cotton. I wouldn’t carry Baggu like a purse like I would with some others but thankfully it can fold up into a little pouch that is small enough to fit into whatever purse you’re already carrying. The pouch is so small and flat it could even fit into a clutch I’m not kidding you. It’s great for impromptu shopping trips you could keep them in the glove box or trunk of your car and not even know they’re there.

The 90’s Strike Back

The 90’s Strike Back – The 90’s are alive and back in full effect in men’s street wear. Here are a few examples of how T-shirt brands are using the 90’s as inspiration in many different ways.

I don’t know if it’s the shirt or the model but this one really reminds me of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”. Using a classic palette of almost neon colors from the 1990’s this shirt made by Lemar and Dauley is a throwback to a time when black and white checks weren’t just for racing anymore. The colors are a little too dusty for me but overall I like this shirt.

Using a similar 90’s inspired color palette this shirt definitely has a more artsy vibe than the one above it hence the name the modern art tank. Right now the designers are Lemar & Dauley must really be watching a lot of “In Living Color” reruns. I really like the way the bold black lines move throughout the shirt. As far as design goes I’m a huge fan of the print on this shirt but I don’t think I would give this guy my number. Something about a dude in such a colorful tank top, I couldn’t do it.

I liked Kid & Play a lot when I was younger. I was far too young to know what was really going on in all those house party movies but I could do their dance at the drop of a hat. As much as I loved them before I am not so sure I would want to wear them at any point in my life on my T-shirt. I must be on my own with that though because these shirts by Rocksmith are readily available online.

I saved this Exact Science shirt for last because I thought it was the best of all the 90’s inspiration T’s. Believe it or not what this shirt is trying to do with all that bright clutter is pay respects to the Wu-Tang Clan or more specifically to their song “Can it all be so simple?”  In high school I listened to my copy of “Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers” too many times to count. So when I noticed that this design includes 4 of the 5 boroughs, dollar signs, shell toes, Cazals, ghetto blasters, cassette tapes, spray paint, 4-finger rings, bucket hats, and people breaking, a favorite was born. Above all that this shirt was also printed in a 90’s style neon palette but somehow it is not as offensive to the eye, maybe because the actual shirt is a calming blue.

The 90’s inspiration is not relegated to just men’s T-shirts. The 90’s flavor is spreading everywhere from shorts to shoes in men’. Lemar & Dauley even have a pair of shoes that are designed to match the Modern Art Tank from above. Some years ago you would only see the bravest of fashion savvy men exploring new color ways, let the return of the 90’s serve as a benchmark that times have indeed changed.

The Maxi

The Maxi – One thing should be made clear when speaking of “the maxi” it is not a dress per se, rather it is a word used to describe the length of said dress. This being said I would like to dispel the rumor that maxi length dresses are only for hippies, grandmas and or conservative religious types. This length is for anyone, especially you.  Why should you wear a maxi? The answer is simple, because the comfort and grace bestowed upon you by the extra length is unparalleled by any of the dresses you’ve ever owned. It has all the comfort of your favorite summer dress but it’s long enough to carry you from day into night with style.

To further illustrate my point I would like you to take a look at the beautiful songstress Thalia. Here we see a very pregnant and glowing Thalia in what looks like a painted silk maxi dress. She proves that you do not need a slim figure to look beautiful wearing maxi length. The long column effect of this dress is sure to make anyone’s movements look more graceful.

The tiered maxi above, worn by our favorite Hollywood bad girl Lindsay Lohan is a good example of a more daring maxi. Typically when a designer is ready to take the plunge in length for a maxi they use either a boho print or some sort of floral. The color varieties in the tiers of this dress add a really playful touch to what some may consider to be a cumbersome length.

Floor length floral print dresses are not just for your grandma anymore. They’re for mischa barton too! I’m just kidding. As far as floral prints go this motif is just “okay” but never the less it is one of the many which are readily available for your enjoyment this summer. Have no fear there are plenty of other floral prints to choose from.

Here we see actress Molly Sims in a very typical boho print maxi dress. I love this print and the super soft silk looks like it would be a dream to shop in. If you’re not sure if you even want a maxi dress I encourage you to at least try on a bohemian print and then tell me you don’t feel a whole new level of stylish comfort. You couldn’t do it.  Pulling off a boho maxi look is so easy because the dress does all the work for you, just slap on a chunky bracelet or some kind of wooden jewelry and you’re good to go.

What I like most about all of these pictures is that all of these women are enjoying casual everyday engagements looking way better than everyone else in the pictures view.  I know what I said about Mischa Barton’s dress, but she still looks great because despite the print the extra length gives a very regal feel. That is what maxi length can do for you too. Regal yet casual and with so many styles to choose from a maxi dress is the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe.

The Streets Love Gabriel Urist

The Streets Love Gabriel Urist – Gabriel Urist is a jeweler for the streets. I would say his jewelry is unisex due to the fact that most women will wear whatever jewelry they please even if the earrings were intended for a man. There is an distinct edge that Urist puts into all of the pieces he makes. His jewelry isn’t widely known but from here on out I will be singing his praises.

Cash rules everything around me C.R.E.A.M. get the money Dolla dolla bills yall! You would be hard pressed to find a street wear fan that doesn’t know those Wu-Tang Clan lyrics. It would even harder to find someone who doesn’t recognize these Wu-Tang W earrings. I can name at least 10 people I know, men and women, who would go nuts if they knew that these earrings even existed.

It is obvious that most of Gabriel Urist’s pieces are for men except this one.

This one here is strictly for the ladies. A high heel sculpted from gold on a small ball chain, give this necklace to your girlfriend and you will make an impression that will last a life time. This necklace warms my heart for two reason. The first being that this pendant is so small and it reminds me of all the Barbie shoes I lost when I was younger. Secondly Urist could have very easily made a typical pump or a more boring sandal but he didn’t, if this strappy heel was life size I would definitely be wearing it. Gabriel doesn’t take the easy way out and I love him for that.

There was a time in the 1990’s that Chicago bulls reigned supreme over the world of basketball after they won three championships for three straight years. After that everyone either loved the bulls or hated them with a passion for beating their own home teams. Eventually the shine faded from the bulls and the whole world forgot about them. Not Gabriel, his love for the bulls is still burning and this pendant is proof.

I already own a necklace just like this, only my pretzel has rhinestone salt. I’m pretty sure the first time I saw a pretzel necklace was on “Sex and the City” when Carrie Bradshaw had one on. If you know who made the original pretzel necklace please let me know. It’s kind of relevant though considering that the pretzel is a New York icon worth repeating.  When some people visit New York for the first time all they can think about is how bad they want to eat a pretzel in Time Square. This necklace let’s the whole world have a taste.

Gabriel Urist jewelry may have unorthodox subject matter but that doesn’t make his work any less creative. All of the things we see on the day to day basis like high heels and pigeons are dipped into gold without hesitation. He seems to understand that there is more to the world of fine jewelry than what sparkles and shimmers. That there are beautiful things through our lives that we should celebrate and wear proudly everyday around our necks.

Trending Fashion News

Trending Fashion News – This season, fashion is all about opulence. Sparkles and sheen, intricate details and deep, rich colors have been the trend as the days get colder and the nights get longer. Warm shades and sumptuous fabrics with fabulous finishes and even faux fur set the stage.

Fashion is taking its cue from the movies, and this winter, the latest remake of the classic novel turned Anna Karenina has been a hit at the cinemas as much for the costumes as the plot. Set in Russia in the nineteenth century and starring the stunning Keira Knightly in the title role, Academy Award nominated designer Jacqueline Durran showcases the romantic styles of the film’s era.

A capsule collection inspired by Durran’s favorite pieces from the set was transformed into a more modern look and were available exclusively at Banana Republic. The line is resplendent with art deco style jewelry, delicate lace embellishments and velvet, and is one of the best looks of the season.

Faux fur is being seen everywhere this year, with the Russian –style hats from the Anna Karenina collection to the fun, funky vests seen everywhere. Besides faux fur, rich fabrics like velvet and brocade are showing up on everything from accent pieces to pants. Sequins are also an easy way to up the glamour, and sparkly tank tops and dresses are perfect for the party season.

One of the season’s hottest trends has been leather or leather-like skinny jeans and jeggings. The term ‘jeggings’ was coined as a combination of leggings and jeans. The bright candy colors that were one of the biggest fashion trends of the summer have been transformed with basic black and muted metallics such as bronze and pewter, and these statement-making pants are one of the keys looks seen everywhere and at every price-point, from low to high-end retailers.

Footwear has taken on a sexy and edgy look, with a lot of embellishment. Studs, spikes and glitter have made their way to shoes and boots, from flats to heels to boots. The equestrian look is still very popular for boots, and slim riding boots with buckles or harness detailing are a perfect choice for the cooler weather, and look fabulous with everything from skirts to skinny jeans.

This fall, the key to looking great combines classic and timeless pieces with a little bit of edge.

T-shirt Parade!! Part One

T-shirt Parade!! Part One – Some days the ever polished and perfect world of “fashion” becomes mundane. From the trend colors to trend inspirations to trend trends…ahh! There is just so much of the same thing or scarily similar things available. Today I just want to relax and enjoy the T-shirt parade. No fuss. No muss. Just T-shirts.

Look at that pretty neckline! There is something you do not see often enough. I’m sure crew neck t-shirts are much cheaper to produce but should that be all some companies offer? I say no, if more brands would switch up their choices in blank t-shirts the consumers would definitely notice a pleasant difference. This t-shirt is called the “blood calendar” by Tank Theory. I googled “blood calendar” to see if it was synonymous with the Mayan calendar but I was wrong its just some thing Tank Theory made up. That’s fine, it’s a cute shirt either way.

Do I look like I give a F*ck? Well do I? You can’t see me  but trust me I don’t. If it wasn’t for the explanation on the back of this shirt I don’t think I would have known what “dilligaf” stood for. This t-shirt is brought to you by Married to the Mob along with other shirts featuring a few other cuss words. Another shirt from this same company says “Lets talk shit”.  Let the record show that I would wear either one of these shirts gladly.

Does Lil Kim know this shirt exists? I’m guessing not because if she did she would probably asking the fine folks at Princess of the Posse for her royalties check. Within the existing Louis Vuitton logos all over Lil Kim’s likeness are also Princess of the Posse logos and the brands name is signed down her leg as well. I don’t like this shirt. If I were going to buy a shirt with Lil Kim on it I would much rather have one of the shirts Marc Jacobs made back in 2006 while she was in jail. These shirts read “Marc Jacobs *heart* Lil Kim”, that is real love for Kim if you ask me.

Sticks and stones may break your bones but this shirt really doesn’t impress me. If you can’t tell what’s on this shirt let me describe it to you. Above the lettering are numerous lipstick tubes lined up side by side and below are several diamonds also side by side. It is clever right? It certainly is however it is also pretty corny.  I’m not sure if I would even wear this shirt if it was given to me as a gift. Maybe if the gift shirt in question came in black I would wear it around my house but no where else.

I know it seems like the parade will end here but don’t worry my darling we are just taking a brief pit stop. So dry your eyes, grab a coke and when I come back I will have even more T-shirts for your viewing pleasure.

T-shirt Parade!! Part Two

T-shirt Parade!! Part Two – The T-shirt parade is back so get comfortable and try to keep an objective mind this time ok? Okay great let’s get started!

Bamboo earrings are hot right now! So hot that everyone has them and  I’m not going to be wearing mine anymore. I mean these things are everywhere.  It’s funny to me that the earrings that were once regarded as symbol of the ghetto and the around the way girl are every where and worn by everyone. We can’t all be around the way girls, someone has to be fronting right? Anyway the fact that the earring in question have made it to a t-shirt, to me, means they have jumped the shark. If you’re not ready to let them go yet that’s ok maybe you can match your beloved bamboo’s with this shirt and call it a day.

I think what this Jeepney shirt is trying to say is guys who love sneakers love girls who love heels. Isn’t that nice? It’s kind of lady and the tramp-ish in a street wear way. I don’t know anything about sneakers, if I own any at all anymore that would be news to me. If a guy is wearing nicer than average or rare sneakers I’m completely oblivious. I do however appreciate it when men take the time to craft their style in anyway even if its just their shoes because women use lots of their time keeping their styles right and tight. So I guess Jeepney was right, game really does recognize game.

Does something seem familiar about this Insight logo? No its not the polka dots or the pink or even the scoop neck. I’m referring to the way the letters are stacked upon each other in  a similar fashion to the Yves Saint Laurent YSL logo. Insight is not the first company to bite the YSL-sequel logo, P Diddy himself committed the same offense at Sean Jean. I don’t blame them. The YSL logo is hot but not hot enough to make me like this Insight shirt. Thumbs down.

Easy does it girls, before you get too excited about this Dope Couture shirt there’s something you should know. For those of you seeking exclusivity in your wardrobe, be advised that this is hardly the first or the last of shirts bearing the likeness of Eric Wright aka Eazy-E. Say what you will about Eazy-E and N.W.A but I would wear this shirt in a heartbeat in memory of him and his contribution to hip hop. It can be hard to rep Eazy-E as a woman because as far as disrespecting women goes he was a huge offender in his life and his lyrics. But, and this is a big but, if you’re from the west coast or any where near  you’re not trying to hear any of that because he was not the first or the last rapper to practice such insensitivity towards females. Bottom line is, this shirt is tight and Compton is in the house once again.

Gosh that was fun wasn’t it?  Sometimes a good old fashion t-shirt parade really hit’s the spot. Let’s do it again real soon!

Warm It Up

Warm It Up – There really is no theme for today, I simply chose some bags that caught my eye for one reason or another.

Pictured above the “Watch me work”  bag from Celine. I love a big red bag all year round. This particular purse reminds me of so many cheaper and probably larger red purses that I have ruined/used to death in my day. I know what you’re thinking “I barely ever wear any red”. That really doesn’t matter because this bag can’t help but be the focal point of your whole outfit due to its color and size alone.  Something so big and shiny really isn’t meant to “match” with anything instead it “goes” with everything.

My only concern with this bag is, I’m not so sure about the chain shoulder strap. It looks good but I hope you don’t intend to wear that bag for very long or you will be irritated and eventually in pain. Keeping in mind the size of this bag and the width of the chain link, if you had a semi full purse, which you will because the temptation to throw everything you need into this bag is too strong, it would be cutting into your shoulder by the end of the night. Personally I wouldn’t really worry about that. You would look much cuter carrying this purse on your forearm or in your hand instead.

Ladies and Gentlemen what we have here is an icon of the handbag world. The Fendi B Bag.  The B Bag is available in a wide variety of colors much like the Spy  bag from. I call this color duck’s foot orange because if you recall the scaly webbed part of a ducks foot is about the same yellow orange color. If you’re not sure what to  buy and you want something orange this season it should definitely be this.

I used to hate yellow and mini bags at the same time. Funny how I  am so drawn to this bright yellow Marc by marc Jacobs mini bag called “Percy”. I would love to have Percy on a night out that way when I hit the dance floor I don’t have a big clunker of a bag holding my groove down. I wonder if you can remove the shoulder strap from this bag, that way it could be used a wallet as well. If that is the case this could be a perfect summer time purse.

Just carry it all day long in your big everyday bag and snap the strap on it when you’re ready to go out. Looking back at all these bags I realize they do have something in common besides the fact that I love them. They are all warm colors which is definitely why I am attracted to them to begin with. I would say that these bags are perfect for summer but they are just as good all year round.

Who are Mike and Chris?

Who are Mike and Chris? – Mike and chris? Sounds like a powerful male design duo. That is only the half truth. They are a very powerful design duo. But they are not old design school chums they are husband and wife. They launched their namesake label after their innovative hoodies created the demand for more. Their hoodies and outerwear in general are really. Cool enough to necessitate their own article someday. Today we will focus first on the mens spring/summer 2008.

I really think Mike and Chris are doing for men’s wear what Surface to Air was trying to do. The main difference is Mike and Chris are minimal without the need to be overtly macabre. These Bermuda shorts are so sleep and tailored you would expect them to be full length pants.

Bermuda’s like these are a welcomed change board / cargo shorts I see walking down the street everyday. The sweater is not so bad either. I like the neckline it not quite crew not quite v-neck.

I really like this deep v-neck sweater. The grey on grey stripe is a nice change from the typical white and black burglar stripe or the dreaded red and black Freddy Krueger stripe. This is more of a grandpa sweater, not threatening at all. The sleeves are a little longer than necessary allowing the wearer to wear the cuff as low or as high on the wrist / forearm as they would like. Yes this is a men’s sweater but I believe a woman, me, could rock it just as well.

Oh boy Mike and Chris you lost me! Not with though jeans though, those are cool. I saw a close up of these jeans and the pockets are different, more of a L shape than your regular pocket.

Really though whats up with the bright yellow suspenders? I’m not saying there aren’t guy out there who want to wear them but they kind of look corny especially paired up with the yellow frame glasses. The shirt looks like something out of Hot Topic. In fact I this whole look can be found much cheaper at Hot Topic.

I chose to comment on this vest because it actually changed my mind when I first saw it. I’m a habitual vest hater. I don’t hate vests are part of formal wear I typically just dislike vests that are intended to be worn alone such a ski vests and the like. This vest is very sharp though.

I don’t like the shirt underneath it, there definitely could have been a better choice. If you look closely you can see the pockets I was talking about in the paragraph above.

Speaking of a pockets this vest has a welt pocket on it, which always looks nice because the look of them alone implies the level of difficulty it took to construct this garment.

I was only lost on one look from this whole collection, that alone has to be some kind of record. It has been awhile since a new label has made such a big impression on me. Mike and Chris I loved your Men’s collection so much I am going to give your Women’s spring/ summer 2008 line a good look through.

Wood’nt it be nice?

Wood’nt it be nice? – Wooden accessories are hot for the summer of 2008. Now I know what your thinking, wood is only for hippie and or boho looks. That is simply untrue; this season wood can be worn with any look. Wooden accessories are made from predominately dark brown wood or at least the wood is all stained a similar dark color. Nevertheless the dark brown color acts as a neutral among the many bright colors of summer.

This wooden heart shaped pendant would be a delightful accompaniment to any summer frock. On top of our sweet wooden heart we have a smaller more abstract heart made from shell. The wood and shell combination will lend an air of natural harmony to your whole outfit.

Above we see another shell and wood combination necklace. This double strand necklace proves that wood has more versatility than you think. This necklace can be worn to add sophistication to a simple tank or to emphasize your bust line in a dress with a plunging neckline. There is hardly anything hippy about this necklace, you probably wouldn’t even know the beads are made from natural wood and shell if you didn’t get a closer look. A necklace such as this would be great for a wood skeptic.

Take a look at this funky painted and natural wooden beaded earring and bracelet set. These items can be purchased separately but they look best when together. The glowing yellow painted beads paired with the natural beads have a very warm feel. I can see this pretty little set worn with a graphic monokini, preferably one with a lot of yellow in the design. Come to think of it this set would go fantastic with the white and yellow polka dot mini dress from yesterday’s article.

I’m in love with this bangle. I need at least three of them. The gold and wood go so well together. If there is only one piece of wooden jewelry you can buy it should be a piece like this. This piece gives you the liberty to experience the wooden trend without going too far. You may not have other wooden pieces to pair with this but you will not need them because the gold half means you can wear as much gold as you like and you are good to go.

As the summer progresses more and more wooden accessories will become readily available. If there was nothing in this article that captured your fancy, just try to keep an open mind and be patient. Your wooden treasure is out there waiting for you. You just have to find it.

Through the stress controlled cyclic triaxial tests of Zhanjiang steel sea beach, sea product muddy soil in plain area of earthquake subsidence characteristics, fully considering the influence of soil confining pressure and consolidation ratio and cyclic stress ratio of the size of residual strain in, get the residual strain of soft clay with vibration frequency, confining pressure and consolidation ratio and cyclic stress ratio and change the rules.

Results found coupling effects of different factors, the development of residual strain mainly for the attenuation curve and failure type curve can be respectively with logarithmic curve model and index curve model to predict, the regional earthquake construction provides a valuable reference.
PCB using carbide drill holes machining tool with spiral groove is a complex shape, from the traditional Hemp flowers derived from drilling. The structural parameters of the micro drilling are closely related to the cutting performance of the cutting edge, and the interaction and mutual influence of these parameters are interrelated.

The by defining the rotation matrix established global coordinates of micro drill flank mathematical model, the mathematical expression of the vector deduced the corresponding chisel edge angle and cutting edge, quantitative analysis of the structural parameters affect the cutting performance, draw relevant conclusions, which for the micro drilling engineering to provide a theoretical basis for design.
In recent years, the study on the disaster of the theory and methods of anthropology has become more and more important. Anthropology as three factors: the social science will be a disaster in the intersection of the environmental, biological and social culture into the category of thinking, and the formation of ‘Archaeology and history’ and ‘political ecology, social culture and behavior’ and ‘application and practice of’ several paradigms in the study.

These paradigms are related to each other, and have drawn the experience of disaster research in other disciplines, and have made a unique contribution to the disaster research in the view of the whole field of Anthropology and the method of the micro ethnographic fieldwork.
